Description:

4-Hydroxy-1-indanone is a serotonin analogue that is used in the synthesis of other compounds. It can be synthesized by reacting 4-chloro-1-indanone with an excess of hydrochloric acid and trichloroacetic acid. The product has been shown to inhibit endothelial cell proliferation in vitro, which may be due to its irreversible inhibition of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and its effect on cellular protein synthesis.
