Description:

2,4-Hexadienal is a reactive functional group that has been shown to have oxidative DNA damage potential. It is also an asymmetric molecule, which can be synthesized in a multistep process using malonic acid and ethyl decanoate. This molecule has been shown to have reactive nucleophilic properties and is used as a model system for studying the physiological function of 2,4-hexadienal. The activation energy for this compound is around 200 kJ/mol.
