It is used as a model parameter for the evaluation of the phase equilibrium between sulfur and aliphatic alcohols, and has been shown to have a high affinity for sulfur. n-Hexyltetraoxyethylene has also been used to study the effect of hydrophobic interactions on molecule modelling. The chemical structure of n-hexyltetraoxyethylene consists of an ethylene group connected to two oxyethylene groups.
