Hexanohydrazide is an amphipathic molecule with a reactive functional group. It is used in the treatment of inflammatory diseases. Hexanohydrazide also has been shown to have anticancer properties, and it binds to metal ions such as chlorine, forming a complex that prevents tumor cells from dividing and growing. Hexanohydrazide may be used for diagnostic purposes, such as in photomultiplier tube experiments where hexanohydrazide reacts with light to form a reactive species that can be detected by the photomultiplier tube. This reactive species can also react with other molecules and form new compounds. Monoclonal antibodies are often used to detect these new compounds on the surface of cells or tissues. A low-energy circularly polarized laser beam can be used to excite hexanohydrazide molecules and generate a detectable signal.
