Product Information

Name:
1-Hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylic acid
Synonyms:
  • 1-Hydroxy-cyclohexanecarboxylicacid
Description:

1-Hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylic acid is a cyclohexane carboxylic acid that is used as a supplement to produce polylactic acid. 1-Hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylic acid can be synthesized by the reaction of lactide with isobutyl chloride or dimethylformamide, through a process known as Friedel-Crafts acylation. The yield of the reaction can be increased by using an additional chemical ionization reagent such as spirodiclofen or chloride, and the reaction can be run at higher temperatures for increased rate of formation. This compound is thermodynamically stable and has a high melting point. 1-Hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylic acid can also be synthesized from mandelic acid and isopropyl alcohol via electrospray ionization (ESI).
