1-Hexylpiperazine is a lipophilic, hydrophobic molecule that has an affinity for the lipid bilayer of cells. It can be used to detect and transfer hydrophobic molecules across the cell membrane. The properties of 1-hexylpiperazine have been studied by using micelles as model proteins. These studies have shown that 1-hexylpiperazine interacts with the hydrophobic moieties on the surface of a protein and desorbs them from the protein's surface. A number of experiments were conducted to investigate how 1-hexylpiperazine interacts with model proteins and how it affects their function. Chemical analyses showed that 1-hexylpiperazine does not affect either cation mobility or ion exchange rates in water.
