Description

Moclobemide is a monoaminergic drug that is used as an antidepressant. It has been shown to inhibit the mitochondrial enzyme monoamine oxidase, which degrades the neurotransmitter serotonin and norepinephrine. Moclobemide also increases glucose metabolism in the brain, which may be important for its mood-elevating effects. Moclobemide has been shown to have a high risk of causing liver damage, including jaundice and hepatic failure. This drug also has a number of side effects such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, nervousness, insomnia and weight loss.
