2-(Hydrazinocarbonyl)benzenesulfonamide (NHCBAS) is a chiral molecule that has been shown to have antibacterial activity. It binds to the bacterial cell wall, preventing the synthesis of proteins required for cell division. NHCBAS is also an inhibitor of escherichia coli and staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The conformation of the molecule affects its binding affinity. This compound is active in both the hydrazinecarbonyl (C1) and benzene (C2) forms, with C1 being more active than C2 against E. coli and S. aureus, while C2 is more active than C1 against S. aureus. This difference may be due to hydrogen bonding between NHCBAS and the amino acid histidine, which is concentrated on the surface of S. aureus cells.
