N-(3-Hydroxy-4-propylphenyl)acetamide (HPPAA) is a plant growth regulator that has been shown to have antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer effects. HPPAA inhibits the activity of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) by binding to the primers and blocking their extension. It also inhibits viral transcription by binding to the RNA polymerase at the promoter site, preventing initiation of transcription. HPPAA modulates the immune system and has been shown to be effective in treating infectious diseases. In addition, it can inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in cancer cells. HPPAA is not toxic to mammalian cells because it does not bind to mammalian RNA polymerases.
