4-Hydroxy-2-methyl-1-naphthyl acetate is a syntheses of vitamin K1, which is an essential cofactor in the biosynthesis of prothrombin (clotting factor) and other coagulation factors. It is synthesized by microorganisms from the vitamin's precursor, menadione. 4-Hydroxy-2-methyl-1-naphthyl acetate can also be used as a catalyst for biotechnology reactions such as DNA synthesis and protein synthesis.
