Description:
2-(Hexyloxy)benzoic acid is a compound used as a pharmaceutical intermediate. It is an inhibitor of phosphatases, which are enzymes that remove phosphate groups from other molecules. 2-(Hexyloxy)benzoic acid also inhibits glutamate-induced release of calcium from intracellular stores in rat brain synaptosomes in vitro. 2-(Hexyloxy)benzoic acid has been shown to be active against metabotropic glutamate receptors and is therefore useful for the treatment of nervous system diseases such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease. This compound has a liquid crystal composition with high water permeability and light resistance.
