Product Information
- 5-(Hydroxymethyl)-2-pyrrolidinone
- 5-Oxoprolenol
- DL-5-(Hydroxymethyl)-2-pyrrolidinone
5-(Hydroxymethyl)pyrrolidin-2-one is an enantiomer of the amino acid glutamate and has been synthesized in a stereoselective manner from methyl pyrrolidine-2-carboxylate. This molecule is used to synthesize enantiopure compounds, which are useful in many industrial applications. 5-(Hydroxymethyl)pyrrolidin-2-one has shown to have antihypertensive activity by binding to the metabotropic glutamate receptor and inhibiting the production of nitric oxide. It also has three trisubstituted carbons and a lactam ring, making it an efficient method for generating chiral molecules.
