2-Hydroxy-5-nitrobenzyl alcohol is a potential anti-cancer agent that inhibits the proliferation of cervical cancer cells. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cervical cancer cells by binding to the hydroxyl group of tyrosine and 3,5-Dinitrosalicylic acid (DNS). The deuterium isotope effect on the 2HOH group was observed in this compound. The halides were found to be cleavage products during the reaction with DNS. The particle size analysis showed that there were two particles present in this compound, which may be due to its cleavage product. The mechanism of action for 2-hydroxy-5 nitrobenzyl alcohol is not yet known.
