Product Information

Name:
3-Hydroxy-5-methoxybenzoic acid
Description:

3-Hydroxy-5-methoxybenzoic acid is a natural product with cytotoxic and antimicrobial properties. It was identified from the root of the medicinal plant, Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb. 3-Hydroxy-5-methoxybenzoic acid inhibits the growth of human carcinoma cells in culture by blocking DNA synthesis and demethylation. The compound is also known to have anti-inflammatory activities, which may be due to its inhibition of xanthine oxidase. 3-Hydroxy-5-methoxybenzoic acid has been shown to inhibit the production of protocatechuic acid and syringic acid in rat liver cells.
