4-Hydroxyisoindolin-1-one is a synthetic compound that has been shown to be a precursor for the synthesis of a number of natural products, including cichorine and lactams. This compound can be synthesized from 1,3-benzodioxole via two different pathways: thermal or copper-mediated cyclization. The former pathway yields a racemic mixture of the product, while the latter yields only one enantiomer. 4-Hydroxyisoindolin-1-one is also used as a precursor for the synthesis of dibenzoxepine via an underscore radical cyclization reaction.
