5-Hydroxy-1,7-diphenyl-6-hepten-3-one (5HDA) is a natural product that belongs to the class of flavokawin. It has been shown to have inhibitory activity against human leukemia cells and may be effective in cancer treatment. 5HDA has been identified in rhizomes of the plant Zingiber officinale and can be extracted using subcritical water extraction techniques. The isolation process includes peroxide oxidation, organic solvent extraction, and vacuum distillation. 5HDA can also be synthesized through a radical cyclization reaction with acetophenone, acetonitrile, and sodium methoxide.
