2-Hydroxy-3-iodobenzaldehyde (2HIB) is a reactive molecule that can be used as a catalyst in cross-coupling reactions. 2HIB is reversibly catalytic and can be used for the synthesis of organic molecules. The catalytic activity of 2HIB is dependent on the presence of oxygen atoms and halides, and it has been shown to undergo x-ray crystallography. 2HIB has also been successfully synthesized from 2,4,6-trichlorophenylacetic acid and 3,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde using a Wittig reaction.
2HIB has two functional groups: an alcohol group at one end and an aldehyde group at the other end. It crystallizes in orthorhombic space group P2(1)/n with lattice parameters a = 12.0 Å, b = 20.55 Å, c = 11.95 Å, β
