Benzamidoxime is a water-soluble organometallic compound that has a basic structure. The benzimidazole ring has two C-H bonds, one of which is adjacent to the nitrogen atom in the diphenyl ether ring. This compound can be found as a salt or an acid and it may also be used as a catalyst for organic reactions. Benzamidoxime is typically prepared by reacting sodium carbonate with an organic halide and hydrochloric acid, or alternatively by reacting sodium carbonate with hydrogen chloride gas. It is also possible to prepare this compound by reacting benzene with ammonia and formaldehyde at elevated temperatures and pressures. This compound can be used in wastewater treatment due to its ability to bind metal ions, such as copper, mercury, zinc, lead, nickel and chromium. It also has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in human liver cells because of its binding affinity for nucleotides containing dinucleotide phosphate groups.
