(E)-3-(3-Hydroxyphenyl)acrylic acid (3HPA) is a caffeic acid derivative that has been shown to have hypoglycemic effects. It inhibits the activity of glucose transport in hl-60 cells and has antioxidative properties. 3HPA also enhances mitochondrial membrane potential, which leads to an increase in ATP production. The structural analysis of 3HPA has been carried out using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. This compound is a natural phenolic compound with inhibitory properties against the growth of cancerous cells and has been shown to have anti-diabetic effects in vitro.
