Hexahydropyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazin-6(2H)-one is a potent nootropic drug that belongs to the class of amide derivatives. It has been shown to have nootropic activity in animal models and also has pharmacological effects on rat brain. Hexahydropyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazin-6(2H)-one modulates the neurotransmitter acetylcholine by acting as a positive allosteric modulator at nicotinic receptors. The molecular mechanism of this compound is not yet fully understood, but it is thought to bind to the active site of the piperazine receptor.
