1-(3-Hydroxy-4-methylphenyl)ethanone is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have the ability to regulate the expression of genes. It has been shown to inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines and other molecules that are involved in neurodegenerative diseases. 1-(3-Hydroxy-4-methylphenyl)ethanone can also induce morphological changes in cells and has been shown to be able to attenuate inflammation. The mechanism of action is not yet known, but it may be due to its ability to regulate gene expression.
