Product Information

Name:
7-Hydroxycoumarin-4-acetic acid
Synonyms:
  • Umbelliferone-4-acetic acid
  • 4-Carboxy-7-hydroxycoumarin
  • 7-Hydroxy-4-coumarinylacetic acid
Description:

7-Hydroxycoumarin-4-acetic acid (7HCAA) is a caffeic acid derivative that is used as a biochemical reagent. It has been shown to inhibit the enzymatic reaction of 4-hydroxycinnamic acid with the enzyme caffeoyl esterase and can be used as an inhibitor for this enzyme. 7HCAA binds to the fatty acids in the cell membrane and inhibits the formation of fatty acid esters, which are important for maintaining the integrity of biological membranes. 7HCAA also inhibits other enzymes, such as phospholipase C and phospholipase D, by binding to their hydroxyl groups. The inhibition of these enzymes leads to a decrease in prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production.
