3-Hexyn-2-ol is a volatile compound that has been shown to have antimicrobial activity. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of phytopathogens, such as fungi and bacteria, by binding to their cell walls. 3-Hexyn-2-ol also catalyzes the synthesis of substances that are toxic to microorganisms, such as alcohols and sulphides. The low solubility of 3-hexyn-2-ol makes it difficult for microorganisms to grow on the compound. 3-Hexyn-2-ol is found in chloroform and volatiles.
