2-Hydroxy-3-trifluoromethylpyridine is a potent inhibitor of death receptors, which are proteins that activate cell death. It has been shown to have potential therapeutic applications in cancer treatment. 2-Hydroxy-3-trifluoromethylpyridine blocks the activation of these death receptors by preventing the binding of ligands, such as TNFα and TRAIL, to their corresponding receptors. This drug also inhibits the recycling of some proteins and prevents the alkenylation of histones H2AX and H3. 2-Hydroxy-3-trifluoromethylpyridine has been shown to be effective against human leukemia cells in vitro and xenograft tumor models in vivo.
