4-Hydrazino-6-hydroxypyrimidine is a reactive compound that is prepared by the reaction of 4-chloro-6-hydroxypyrimidine with phenylhydrazine in nitrobenzene or in dioxane. It can be used as an analog to 6-aminohexanoic acid, which is used as a starting material for the synthesis of various biologically active molecules. 4-Hydrazino-6-hydroxypyrimidine can also be used as a nucleophile to react with other compounds. This compound is insoluble in water and soluble in organic solvents such as methanol, tetrahydrofuran, and dioxane.
