Description

11-Hydroxylauric acid is a natural compound that is a carboxylic acid with a hydroxyl group at C-11. It has been detected in rat liver microsomes and human liver, and can be used as an analytical marker for the identification of rat liver microsomes in liquid chromatography. 11-Hydroxylauric acid binds to the retinoic acid receptor and inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids, which may be due to its ability to inhibit all-trans-retinoic acid from binding to the retinoic acid receptor. 11-Hydroxylauric acid is also an inhibitor of fatty acid synthase, which catalyzes the formation of long chain fatty acids from acetate.
