2-Hydroxyethyl N-butylcarbamate is a carbamate that is used in the production of polyurethane. It reacts with propylamine to produce propylene carbonate, which are then reacted with calcium oxide at high temperatures and pressure to produce polyurethane. The catalytic reaction mechanism has been shown to be of high activity and good yields. 2-Hydroxyethyl N-butylcarbamate can be used as an amine synthesis catalyst, by reacting with ethylene and dialkyl amines to form symmetric amines. The reaction temperature for this process is between 20°C and 60°C.
