- Dichloro(O-Isopropoxyphenylmethylene)(Tricyclohexylphosphine)Ruthenium(Ii)
The Grubbs catalyst is a ruthenium-based olefin metathesis catalyst that is used in organic chemistry for the preparation of a wide range of functionalized organic compounds. The first generation of this family of catalysts was developed by Professor Hoveyda and his co-workers. This catalyst, which contains an ethynyl ligand, is prepared from chloroform and hexanes, followed by recrystallization from chloroform. It has been shown to be effective in the synthesis of alcohols from alkenes and alkynes.
