1,2-Hexadecyliden-rac-glycero-3-phosphocholine (1,2-HDGPC) is a lipid molecule that is found in the intestinal lumen. It is hydrolyzed by enzymes to produce 1,2-hexadecylglycerol and phosphocholine. The phosphocholine is then converted into choline by phosphatidylcholine transferase. 1,2-HDGPC has been shown to act as an inhibitor of the enzyme monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL), which hydrolyzes monoacylglycerols from cell membranes. This inhibition prevents the formation of arachidonate from docosahexaenoate, preventing the production of inflammatory eicosanoids.
