Product Information

Name:
(E)-4-Hydroxyhexenal
Description:

(E)-4-Hydroxyhexenal is a reactive compound that has been shown to bind to the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and inhibit its binding activity. (E)-4-Hydroxyhexenal is also able to induce oxidative injury in cells and tissues, but the precise mechanism of this effect is unknown. This compound is found in biological samples such as blood plasma and urine and can be used as an analytical method for measuring oxidative stress levels. There are many biological properties associated with this molecule, including brain functions, mitochondrial functions, cellular physiology, and atherosclerotic lesion development. The most well-known effect of (E)-4-hydroxyhexenal is its ability to induce neuronal death by inducing mitochondrial membrane potential disruption.
