Trans,trans-2,4-Hexadien-1-ol is a fatty acid that has been stabilized with alpha-tocopherol. It is used to produce polyvinyl alcohol and ethylene diamine. This product also has a number of other applications, including use as an antioxidant in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Trans,trans-2,4-Hexadien-1-ol stabilizer is used to prevent oxidation of polyvinyl alcohol by reacting with the hydroxyl group on the polyvinyl alcohol molecule. It can also be used as a component in chemical reactions that require an organic acid or base catalyst. Trans,trans-2,4-Hexadien-1-ol stabilizer reacts with sodium citrate to produce caproic acid and ethylene diamine as a byproduct.
