6-Hydroxyaminopurine is a purine analogue that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria. It is a diploid molecule, which means it has two nucleotide bases attached to each other. 6-Hydroxyaminopurine is used in clinical relevance for diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. Recent studies have shown that 6-hydroxyaminopurine inhibits the production of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), and may be useful in the treatment of obesity due to its ability to decrease appetite. 6-Hydroxyaminopurine binds with high affinity to bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing transcriptional regulation by binding to these enzymes and inhibiting DNA synthesis. This drug also inhibits cyclic lipopeptide synthesis in wild type strains of Escherichia coli, but not in mutants with mutations in their genes coding for cyclic lipopeptide synthases or cyclic lipopeptide
