Synonyms:
  • 2,5-Dimethyl-4-hydroxy-3-hexanone
  • 4-Hydroxy-2,5-dimethyl-3-hexanone
Description:

4-Hydroxy-2,5-dimethylhexan-3-one is a dicarbonyl compound that inhibits the formation of carbon nanotubes in solvents. It was shown to form a complex with valeraldehyde and inhibit the formation of these tubes. This compound has been shown to inhibit the production of aldehydes in polyolefin. The substituent effects on the carbonyl group are stereoselective and can be used to differentiate between different forms of this compound. 4-Hydroxy-2,5-dimethylhexan-3-one has also been shown to act as an inhibitor for devices such as spin resonance spectroscopy (SRS) and gas chromatography (GC).
