Product Information
- 2-Hydroxyhexadecanoic acid methyl ester
- Methyl 2-Hydroxyhexadecanoate
2-Hydroxyhexadecanoate methyl (2-OHHDA) is a fatty acid that is structurally similar to heptacosane. It has been shown to be a haloalkyl and to have antioxidant properties. 2-OHHDA is metabolized by the enzyme camphora, which catalyzes the conversion of 2-OHHDA into camphor. 2-OHHDA has been shown to inhibit the production of acetaldehyde in cells, thereby reducing fatty acid synthesis. This molecule also prevents lipid extraction from adipose tissue, which may be due to its ability to prevent the breakdown of lipids or its ability to block lipase activity. In addition, 2-OHHDA has been found to induce apoptosis in breast cancer cell lines MFC7 and MCF10A by activating caspases and inhibiting protein synthesis and lipid metabolism.
