Product Information
- 2-Hydroxycinchoninic acid
- 2-Oxo-1,2-Dihydroquinoline-4-Carboxylate
- 2-Hydroxy-4-Quinolincarboxylic Acid
2-Hydroxyquinoline-4-carboxylic acid (2HQC) is a potent inhibitor of the efflux pump, an important mechanism for drug resistance in cancer cells. 2HQC also has antimicrobial activity against Streptococcus faecalis and carboxylate properties. It has been shown to have radical scavenging activities, which may be due to its ability to inhibit production of reactive oxygen species. 2HQC has been found to be a multidrug efflux pump inhibitor, as well as a potent inhibitor of bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV.
2HQC is structurally related to fluoroquinolones, but without the fluorine atom in the para position. This difference accounts for its lack of activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains.
