4-Hydroxy-furazan-3-carboxylic acid is a sulfoxide that has been shown to be an endogenous compound in animals. It has also been demonstrated to have receptor activity against inflammatory diseases. This drug has been shown to inhibit the production of compounds that are necessary for inflammation, such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes, by blocking the enzyme cyclooxygenase. The geometric isomers of 4-hydroxy-furazan-3-carboxylic acid are pyridazine and onchocerca, which have different effects on receptor activity.
