4'-Hydroxypapaverine is a metabolite of acetylcodeine, heroin, or papaverine. It is formed by the oxidation of 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylpapaverine. The presence of this metabolite in urine samples can be used as a marker for illicit drug use. This metabolite has been shown to have analytical toxicology properties that are similar to those of other opiate metabolites.
