Description:

Hexachlorophene is a glycol ether that has been used as a fixative agent and disinfectant. It is not currently used as an antimicrobial agent in the United States, but it is still available in other countries. Hexachlorophene has been shown to be toxic to mammalian cells at high concentrations, but low levels of this drug have been shown to be safe for use in humans. Hexachlorophene has a molecular docking analysis with the basic protein, which can inhibit autophagy and cellular transformation. Benzalkonium chloride may interact synergistically with hexachlorophene and increase its toxicity.
