Description

Alverine is a drug that belongs to the class of drugs called prokinetics. Alverine is used as a bowel relaxant and is also used as an anti-inflammatory agent. It is not known exactly how alverine works, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit the metabolism of certain moieties in the body, such as 4-hydroxy alverine. The drug has been found to have a glucuronide moiety and a citrate group. Alverine has been shown to be metabolized through the metabolic process of conjugation with glucuronic acid. This active metabolite was found in plasma samples following intravenous administration of alverine.
