3-Hydroxy Clonazepam is an active metabolite of clonazepam, which is a benzodiazepine. It has been shown to be partially metabolized by the liver and intestines, with some being excreted unchanged in the bile. The intestinal microflora was found to produce 3-hydroxy clonazepam from clonazepam in an incubation with rat liver microsomes and intestinal contents. The metabolic studies of 3-hydroxy clonazepam have been optimized for rat liver microsomes.
