6-Hydroxy desloratadine is a metabolite of loratadine, which is a drug used to treat symptoms of hay fever and other allergies. It is an antihistamine that inhibits the H1 receptor and blocks histamine from binding to this receptor. 6-Hydroxy desloratadine has been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties in vitro, as well as in cell cultures. The bioanalytical method for 6-hydroxylated desloratadine uses nanospray ionization and LC-MS/MS detection with high sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and precision. The human liver is one of the tissues where 6-hydroxylated desloratadine has been detected, with validation using endogenous levels found in plasma samples. This test also normalized the data by taking into account the total amount of parent drug present in each sample.
