2-Hydroxy felbamate is a drug that is used for the treatment of epilepsy. It belongs to the group of anticonvulsants and has been shown to be effective in the treatment of seizures. 2-Hydroxy felbamate inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species and free radicals, which are involved in cancer cell proliferation. The drug has been found to decrease bile acid synthesis by inhibiting cytochrome P450 enzymes in the liver. 2-Hydroxy felbamate also inhibits leukotriene synthesis by inhibiting 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX). This inhibition prevents inflammation caused by leukotrienes and may be useful in treating asthma, psoriasis, and other diseases involving inflammatory reactions. 2-Hydroxy felbamate can be detected using vibrational spectroscopy on urine samples.
