R-(3)-Hydroxy myristic acid methyl ester is an organic compound that can be synthesized from benzyl alcohol and myristic acid. It has been shown to catalyze the oxidation of short-chain olefins. The reaction yields are not as high as those seen with other metal-containing catalysts, but this compound has the advantage of being a nonmetal catalyst that does not produce any pollutants. R-(3)-Hydroxy myristic acid methyl ester is also used in medicine, specifically for the treatment of obesity by inhibiting lipase.
