4'-Hydroxy nimesulide is a reactive metabolite of nimesulide. It is formed by the oxidation of nimesulide and other reactive metabolites, such as 4-hydroxynimesulide and 5-hydroxynimesulide. This metabolite can be detected in urine samples using a spectrophotometric method. The light emission from this metabolite is proportional to the concentration of the drug in urine. The 4'-hydroxy nimesulide has been found to have a matrix effect on clinical studies because it can interfere with the determination of nimesulide in human serum samples. It has also been shown to have an inhibitory effect on monocytes.
