Description:
7-Hydroxy-2-acetylaminofluorene is a chemical that has been shown to be carcinogenic in animals. It reacts with DNA, forming adducts which inhibit the synthesis of proteins and lead to cell death. The rate of protein synthesis is reduced by the formation of 7-hydroxy-2-acetylaminofluorene adducts with messenger RNA (mRNA) and ribosomal RNA (rRNA). This results in inhibition of protein synthesis and cell death.
