Description:
Mefenamic acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is structurally related to phenylbutazone. It is an effective analgesic and antipyretic agent. 3-Hydroxymethyl mefenamic acid, the active form of mefenamic acid, can be analysed in plasma samples by gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GC-FID) and mass spectrometry (MS). The sulfonation reaction monitoring technique is used to determine the concentration of mefenamic acid in plasma samples. This method has been validated for use in humans.
