Product Information
- 1H-Pyrrole-3-methanol
3-Hydroxymethylpyrrole is an analog of pyrrole, which is a natural product. It is synthesized from methanol and acetonitrile in the presence of an acid catalyst. The reaction can be carried out in either a one pot or two pot synthesis. 3-Hydroxymethylpyrrole is cleaved by hydrogenation with Raney nickel to produce tetrahydropyridine, which can then undergo alkylation with various electrophiles to give derivatives of porphobilinogen.
