Product Information

Name:
N-Hexanoyl-L-homoserine lactone
Synonyms:
  • hexanamide, N-[(3S)-tetrahydro-2-oxo-3-furanyl]-
Description:

N-Hexanoyl-L-homoserine lactone is a chemical that emits light when it reacts with oxygen. It has been shown to cause prostate cancer cells to undergo cell death by apoptosis, which is the process by which abnormal and unwanted cells are eliminated from the body. This compound also induces an effect called matrix effect in mice, which is the inhibition of locomotor activity. The biochemical properties of this compound have been studied using LC-MS/MS analysis. This method was used to identify N-hexanoyl-L-homoserine lactone as a novel antimicrobial agent against human pathogens such as Streptococcus pyogenes, Haemophilus influenzae, or Staphylococcus aureus.
