Product Information
- 1H-Indole-2-carboxylic acid, 6-hydroxy-
- 6-Hydroxy-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid
6-Hydroxyindole-2-carboxylic acid is a metabolite of tryptophan. It can be found in the urine and blood of humans, as well as in some foods, such as beans. 6-Hydroxyindole-2-carboxylic acid oxidizes to form indoleacetic acid, which is used in the production of fluoroquinolones. The reductase gene that encodes for this enzyme has been cloned and expressed in E. coli. 6HICA is converted to quinolinecarboxylic acid by carboxylase enzymes and monooxygenases (e.g., cytochrome P450) before being excreted or further metabolized to indole-5-carboxylic acid by putidaredoxin or oxidized to form indoleacetic acid by cytochrome P450 enzymes.
6HICA may also be used as an assay for cytochrome
