Product Information

Name:
3-Hydroxyibuprofen
Synonyms:
  • 2-[4-(3-Hydroxy-2-methylpropyl)phenyl]propionic acid
Description:

3-Hydroxyibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that has been shown to inhibit cyclooxygenase and reduce the production of prostaglandins. It is used in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, such as chronic pain. The drug is metabolized to ibuprofen in the liver and excreted in urine. 3-Hydroxyibuprofen can be found in human urine samples after taking an ibuprofen tablet. 3-Hydroxyibuprofen can be prepared using a variety of methods, which depend on the matrix effect and analytical goals. The most common method for preparing 3-hydroxyibuprofen is extraction from acetylsalicylic acid with methanol or ethanol. This method provides high yields with a low level of protein contamination.
